Southwestern Australia Acid-Saline Mineralogy: Observations From Reflectance Spectroscopy

چکیده
Acid-saline sediments in shallow-lake environments southwestern Australia host complex mineralogical suites representing long-term weathering and modern extreme acid-saline chemistry. It is not known whether large-scale reflectance spectroscopy datasets from watersheds across the Yilgarn Craton show regional variability. This study assesses over 2500 spectra of shallow subsurface by using automatic minima detections for spectral features interest. Integrating microscopic observations that proportionally similar mineral assemblages exist a variety recognizable textures. Spectral results indicate iron oxide phyllosilicates are most detected types, alongside less common alunite, jarosite, gypsum. The difference detection abundance percentage groups, particularly oxides, accounts largest variation observed spectra. feature characteristics significant oxide, hydrated absorptions. align with previous these landscapes expected evolution granitoids, where Al-phyllosilicates oxides prevalent. Observations enhance understanding differences similarities chemical precipitates products water–rock interaction have implications studying rocks on Mars.

متن کاملEstimating Nitrogen and Acid Detergent Fiber Contents of Grass Species using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS)
Chemical assessments of forage clearly determine the forage quality; however, traditional methods of analysis are somehow time consuming, costly, and technically demanding. Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) has been reported as a method for evaluating chemical composition of agriculture products, food, and forage and has several advantages over chemical analyses such as conducting c...
متن کاملEstimating the modal mineralogy of eucrite and diogenite meteorites using visiblenear infrared reflectance spectroscopy
Reliable quantitative mapping of minerals exposed on Vesta’s surface is crucial for understanding the crustal composition, petrologic evolution, and surface modification of the howardite, eucrite, and diogenite (HED) parent body. However, mineral abundance estimates derived from visible–near infrared (VIS–NIR) reflectance spectra are complicated by multiple scattering, particle size, and nonlin...

Acid and saline seeps are an increasing problem in most parts of the World and Australia as well. They are areas of bare soil or reduced crop production. Recent laboratory, field, and remote sensing studies have explored the use of visible to short – wave infrared (VIS- SWIR; 400-2500 nm) reflectance data for characterizing the mineralogy of mine wastes, surface mineralogy of acid-saline affect...
